# Generating an API Key

> Create an API key to authenticate requests to the Starbridge REST API.

To use the Starbridge API, you need to create an API key in the Starbridge dashboard.

## Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you can access your Starbridge dashboard account.

## Step 1 — Open the API Key Settings

Go to [Settings → API Keys](https://dashboard.starbridge.ai/settings/api-keys).

## Step 2 — Create a New API Key

Click **Create API Key** and give it a descriptive name, such as the service or integration that will use it.

  Use names that make keys easy to identify later, especially if you create separate keys for different services or environments.
