# Bridge permissions and live updates

> Control who can see a Bridge, and whether it keeps adding new rows.

Every Bridge has two settings that decide how it behaves for your team:

* **Who can see it** — private to you, or shared with your organization.
* **Live updates** — whether the Bridge keeps looking for new rows or stays a snapshot.

## Who can see a Bridge

Open a Bridge and click **Share**. Under **Who can see this bridge**, pick one of:

* **Only me** — the Bridge is private: only you can see it. It's hidden from everyone else in your organization, including Admins and Builders.
* **Shared** — the Bridge follows the usual sharing rules: Admins and Builders can see it, and Consumers see it once you share it with them or with one of their teams. See [Sharing Bridges with Consumers](https://hc.starbridge.ai/builders/new-bridge-building-flow.md#sharing-bridges-with-consumers).

Bridges that existed before this setting was added are shared.

### Defaults

| Created by | Starts as |
| - | - |
| Consumer | Private (**Only me**) |
| Builder or Admin | Shared |

### What happens when a Bridge becomes private

* Other users are unsubscribed from it, so it leaves their Feed and email digests.
* Its share link stops working for anyone but you.

### When a Bridge can't be private

Starbridge stops you from making a Bridge private while other people's work depends on it. Remove the dependency first, then try again. A Bridge can't be private while:

* **Live updates** are on (see [Live updates and private bridges](#live-updates-and-private-bridges))
* It's enrolled in account scoring
* Other users' Bridges or sequences read from it, such as a shared sequence built on it or another user's link column pointing at it

### When someone leaves

When a user is removed from your organization, their private Bridges and sequences become shared so their work isn't lost.

## Live updates

A Bridge with **Live updates** on keeps looking for new rows every night. With Live updates off, the Bridge is a snapshot: it keeps the rows it has and doesn't add new ones.

You can see each Bridge's setting in the **Updates** column of the Bridges table and next to the Bridge type in the Bridge header:

| Badge | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Live** | The Bridge keeps adding new rows. |
| **Off** | The Bridge keeps its current rows and doesn't add new ones. |
| **Manual** | A contact Bridge you add contacts to by hand. It never searches on its own. |

### Which Bridges have Live updates

| Bridge type | Live updates |
| - | - |
| RFP, Meeting, Purchase, Conference, Job Change, Custom Web Signal | On or off |
| Contact Bridges built from a search | On or off |
| Contact Bridges you add contacts to by hand | Always **Manual** |
| Contact Bridges imported from a CSV | Always **Manual** |
| Vendor presence Bridges | Always live |
| Buyer Bridges | - |

### Turn Live updates on or off

You set Live updates when you save a new Bridge. To change it later, open the Bridge's **⋮** menu (in the Bridge header or the Bridges table) and use the **Live updates** switch.

New Bridges start with:

* **On** for signal Bridges (RFP, Meeting, Purchase, Conference, Job Change)
* **Off** for contact Bridges and custom web signal Bridges

For custom web signal Bridges, choose how often to look for new signals with **Re-run cadence**, under the Live updates switch.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Only Admins and Builders can turn Live updates on or off. Bridges built by Consumers always have Live updates off.

### What changes when Live updates are off

* The Bridge does not add new rows, and live sequences stop receiving new contacts.
* Existing rows still refresh: rows whose source was removed drop off, and data, CRM, and scoring columns stay up to date.

When you turn Live updates back on, the Bridge catches up on recent results in its next nightly run. A full backfill of all possible previous results is not run.

### Live updates and private bridges

A live Bridge can't be private. To make a Bridge private, turn Live updates off first.

>
> [Ask Starbridge](https://hc.starbridge.ai/consumers/ask-starbridge-chat.md) and the [Starbridge MCP](https://hc.starbridge.ai/research/starbridge-mcp.md) follow the same settings. They can share a Bridge or make it private for you, and never show you another user's private Bridges.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Sequences have their own visibility setting. See [Who can see a sequence](https://hc.starbridge.ai/sequences/managing-sequences.md#who-can-see-a-sequence).
