# Sequences overview

> Turn Starbridge signals and contacts into multi-step email outbound, sent from your own inboxes.

<Note>
  **Sequences is in beta.** Features and packaging on these pages may change before general availability. To get access, reach out to your GTME.
</Note>

Starbridge already helps you score and prioritize your TAM, surface timely buying signals, and find the right people to talk to. Sequences is how you reach them: multi-step email outbound, sent from your own inboxes.

## Two ways teams run outbound

Most public sector and education teams run two distinct outbound motions. Starbridge Sequences supports both!

**Scaled plays** go out to lists of hundreds or thousands of accounts or contacts. With Starbridge, this outreach is scaled but targeted: every district in a state that just received new grant funding, every account where a competitor you displace well is already present, every new hire in a title you sell to. These plays are usually built by marketing, RevOps, or a BDR lead, to generate replies and meetings booked for the whole team to work.

**Surgical outreach** is the daily rep motion. A rep working a prioritized list of accounts or reviewing hot buying signals finds an interesting contact, and wants multi-step outreach for that person built on everything Starbridge knows about them and their account.

## The three types of sequence

| Sequence type | Where recipients come from | Who builds it | Who enrolls contacts | Sends from |
| ---------------- | ------------------------------- | -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------- |
| **Bridge-based** | From a Bridge | Builders | Builders, up front; and optionally Starbridge, as the Bridge updates over time | Inboxes you assign to the sequence |
| **Team** | Reps add contacts one at a time | Builders | Any rep | The rep's inbox |
| **One-off**      | A single contact                | Any rep, on the spot | Any rep                                                                        | The rep's inbox                    |

[**Bridge-based sequences**](/sequences/bridge-based-sequences) serve the scaled play. You point a sequence at a Bridge, Starbridge generates personalized messages for every contact in it, and, if you leave live updates on, new contacts enroll automatically as the Bridge finds them.

[**One-off sequences**](/sequences/one-off-sequences) serve the surgical motion. A rep generates a sequence for one contact from a contact card or Ask Starbridge, workshops the copy, and enrolls them.

[**Team sequences**](/sequences/team-sequences) sit between the two. A builder writes a play once, whether it's a job changes follow-up or a meeting mention follow-up, and reps enroll contacts into it one at a time as relevant signals surface in their feed. Your messaging stays consistent and on-brand without a rep drafting outbound from scratch, and reps choose which signals they're interested in actioning with the sequence.

<Tip>
  **Not sure which to build?** If you can describe your audience as a Bridge, build a Bridge-based sequence. If the play is repeatable but the timing is a rep's judgment call, build a Team sequence. If it's a single account or contact you care about right now, create a one-off.
</Tip>

## What each role can do

|                            | Consumers (reps)                     | Builders                                       |
| -------------------------- | ------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------- |
| See Bridge-based sequences | — | Build and edit, enroll and manage all contacts |
| See Team sequences | Enroll and manage their own contacts | Build and edit, enroll and manage all contacts |
| One-off sequences | Create and manage their own | Create and manage all |
| Connect a personal inbox   | Yes                                  | Yes                                            |
| Set exclusion lists        | —                                    | Per sequence                                   |

Every admin is a builder, so admins can do everything in this table. Two things are admin-only: setting the org's default exclusion lists, and setting message generation preferences in your [Organization Profile](https://dashboard.starbridge.ai/settings/organization).

Reps see the **Sequences** tab in the sidebar, where they'll find Team sequences and their own one-off sequences. Bridge-based sequences aren't visible to them.

## Before you send

Set up these three things before your first sequence goes out.

**Connect an inbox.** Connect at least one inbox to start sending. Every rep needs to connect their own inbox for Team and one-off sequences. See [Connect your inbox](/sequences/connect-your-inbox).

**Set message generation preferences.** Admins can define tone, style, and value props once in your [Organization Profile](https://dashboard.starbridge.ai/settings/organization), and every generated message across Sequences, the Personalized Outbound Email column, and Ask Starbridge reflects them.

**Add your exclusion lists.** Admins can sync any list of accounts from the CRM and add it as an exclusion list in Settings. For example, sync your current customers and add them as an exclusion list so you don't accidentally prospect an account you already serve. Builders can adjust exclusions on any individual sequence. See [Send settings and exclusions](/sequences/send-settings#exclusion-lists).

## Pricing and early access

At general availability, Sequences will be a paid add-on module. Early-access partners have complimentary access through the beta, running to GA plus 60 days. Before it ends, we'll review your usage together and recommend the tier that fits, with discounted pricing for early-access customers who convert.
